Why do you charge for translation according to your standard line (55 keystrokes) and not by the number of words?
Word length varies considerably depending on the language. It often happens for example that the original text and the translation both contain the same number of characters but that the number of words differs widely. This may work out sometimes to the advantage – but also sometimes to the disadvantage – of the client. For the sake of fairness all round therefore apoint translations prefers to charge according to its standard line. The client always pays for the translation work actually done.

I am a freelance translator and would like to apply to apoint translations for translation work. How should I proceed?
Apoint translations does not appoint any full-time employees; it collaborates with selected freelancers, i.e. translators working independently. The freelancers we use must satisfy the following criteria: They must have a state-recognized translation diploma or degree and work with Trados Translator's Workbench (SDL Trados). They must translate into their respective native language. If you satisfy these conditions you are invited to send us a brief CV (in Dutch, English, French, or German), details of the rates you charge (per standard line of 55 keystrokes and per hour), and the language combination(s) you offer – to the following e-mail address: .

I have had a German text translated both into Dutch and into French. Why is the translation into Dutch cheaper than the one into French?
We charge for translation according to the number of standard lines in the target language, i.e. the translation. German and Dutch texts are usually of roughly the same length, whereas translations from German into French or Italian usually turn out around 10 percent longer. An English translation often turns out even shorter than the German or Dutch versions. If the translation is longer this logically costs more because the translator needs more time. At apoint translations the client always pays for the translation work actually done.

I have completed a quote request form and sent it to apoint translations. Will the translation be completed immediately?
First of all you will receive a quote from apoint translations. You must then confirm that you agree to this quote; you should receive confirmation from apoint translations by return; only then will your order be considered actually placed.
